Abstract
Stereopair slide of the Vanadium Corporation of America's Durango Uranium-Vanadium Processing Plant showing red cake (vanadium concentrate). The red cake was extracted from carnotite ore by salt roasting crushed ore and then leaching and precipitating the vanadium concentrate. It was then filtered and dried. Before shipment the red cake was fused in a furnace, which turned it black. Vanadium was used as a hardening additive in steel.
