dc.description.abstract | The Walker Mine is an open pit iron mine in the Mesabi Range, Minnesota. The Mine was operated intermittently from 1909 into the 1950s by the Oliver Iron Mining Company. The Oliver Iron Mining Company was established in 1883 as an iron mining and shipping firm with interests in the Great Lakes region. It was one of the large mining companies that consolidated smaller properties in the iron ranges in the early 1900s. The Company became one of the largest iron ore companies in the US. | |
