A miner weighs out explosives at an underground magazine in the Montreal Mine. The Montreal Mine was an underground iron mine in the Gogebic Range near Montreal, Wisconsin. The Mine was in operation by the 1880s with other early mines in the Range, and closed by the late 1960s. It was one of the deepest iron mines in the world. The Mine was operated by the Montreal Mining Company, which was reportedly incorporated around 1894.
