Abstract
A man stands by a shelter hole in a concreted railed tunnel at an unidentified mine. Another man stands by ore cars further in the background. Given the location this may be the Ray copper mine, one of the largest copper mines in Arizona and operating as an open pit mine into 2003. The Ray Copper Company was organized in 1882 to exploit copper deposits discovered in the area and undertook large scale mining operations in the early 1900s. The open pit at Ray was started in the late 1940s.
