Abstract
The image shows three miners starting the initial drilling of the Cary Mine borehole at the surface. The Cary Mine was an underground mine in the Gogebic Range near Hurley, Wisconsin. It was operated from 1886 to 1964 by Pickands, Mather and Company. The Cary's closure marked the end of 80 years of iron mining in the area.
