These hoods supplement the standard retaining hoods and furnish additional eye-protection to nearby workmen. Lights installed under the hood adequately illuminate the work. Both the canopy hood and the retaining hoods on each wheel are fastened to upright standards. The canopy hoods can be raised for cleaning and the retaining hoods can be swung horizontally away from the wheel when the wheel is to be replaced. The Company began operations on the north shore of Thunder Bay, Michigan in 1901 and was producing cement by 1907. By 1910 it had become the largest cement producer in the world, using limestone quarries around Alpena and Rogers City.
