The Mahnomen Mine is an open pit iron mine in the Cuyuna Range, Minnesota. The Mahnomen workings include the Cuyuna-Sultana and Mangan No. 2 mines. The Mine opened in 1915 and was operated by a number of companies before being run by Pickands, Mather & Company starting in the late 1920s. Pickands, Mather & Co. was established in 1883 as an iron mining and shipping firm with interests in the Lake Superior region. It was one of the large mining companies that consolidated smaller properties in the iron ranges in the early 1900s.
