    Abstract
Photograph of the Mammoth Revenue Mine, adjacent structures, and mine tailings. The Mine, located just south of Platoro, was the largest mine in the area. Between 1889 and 1906 it produced about a quarter of a million dollars worth of gold and silver. After this time the mine closed and Platoro was deserted for a number of years. Although the Mammoth Revenue re-opened for a short time in the 1930s, it closed down again after the nearby mill burned. In 1959 the mine re-opened again, and a mill was built in 1966. By the early 1970s, the mine had produced over 20,000 ounces of silver and over 500 ounces of gold.
