dc.description114. Manitou Series. Melrose Abbey, Glen Eyrie. Collier's Rocky Mountain Scenery. Published at Central City Colorado.
No. 114. Manitou is seventy-five miles south of Denver, at the entrance of the Ute Pass into the South Park, and is reached by the Rio Grande Railway. It is the location of the celebrated mineral springs already annually frequented by an army of tourists and seekers after health. The rocks which make this region so romantic are the sandstone, limestone and conglomerate, which elsewhere form the foothills. Here, instead of resting at an inclination, they stand upon their edges, by some freak of nature enclosing various areas; that of Gen [sic] Eyrie contains probably a thousand acres, while the Garden of the Gods is but a mere fragment of space. A beautiful crystal stream runs through the Glen. These crags form a portion of what is known as Melrose Abbey--Verso.
