dc.description | No. 1. James Peak Series. Sphynx Rock. Sphynx Rock is a rare freak of Nature, which touched up, as is daily is by the rays of the sun, irresistibly reminds every beholder, of that period thousands of years ago when its antitype was erected in Egypt. Nature always excels Art in the magnitude of her works, and has done so on a grand scale in this instance, as the face has a perpendicular height of about eight hundred feet. It is located on the Eastern wall of James Peak, and is well worthy a place in the long list of wonders which Colorado scenery so often presents--Verso. | |
