dc.description.abstractA rotary car dumper in action is dumping a car at the Newport Mine. Rotary dumpers are structures that revolve mine cars and discharge their contents, usually sideways. The Newport Mine in the Gogebic district near Ironwood, Michigan began operations in 1884. The mine was operated by the Newport Mining Company, then eventually by Pickands, Mather & Company.
