dc.descriptionUSBM #58573; Drilling and blasting operations at Velva open-cut mine. Blast holes are 9 feet deep on 10-foot centers in two rows of 5 each. Each hole charged with 5 pounds of free-running #2 bag powder and 1 stick of 40% extra dynamite. Holes were not tamped. Electric blasting is employed. Truax-Traer Coal Company, Velva Mine, Velva, North Dakota. (1/18/45 - M.L. Williams).

dc.description.abstractBlasts are shown at the Velva Mine. The Velva Mine was an open cut (open pit) coal mine near Velva, North Dakota. The Mine was operated by Truax-Traer Coal Company. Truax-Traer operated a number of coal mines using strip mining techniques in North Dakota and other states. The Company was purchased by Consolidation Coal Company in 1962.
