A distant view of men drilling in the National Quarry is shown. Drilled holes plugged for blasting are visible. Some men are gathered around what is probably a warming shed nearby. Other men are off to the side of the drilling site. The National Quarry (Tawas Quarry, Tawas Mine?) is an open pit gypsum mine near National City, Michigan operated by the National Gypsum Company. The mine was an important gypsum producer in Michigan for decades. The National Gypsum Company began working the gypsum deposit here in 1925 and the existing town was renamed National City.
