Two men operate a car door winder on a rail car at the Trout Lake Concentrator. The Trout Lake Concentrator was an ore washing plant built on Trout Lake, in the Mesabi Range near Coleraine, Minnesota. The plant went into operation in about 1907, concentrating iron ore and washing the tailings into the lake. The plant was closed and dumping of ore tailings into Trout Lake was discontinued, possibly in the 1940s. The Oliver Iron Mining Company was organized in the early 1890s to manage property in the Mesabi Range. The Company acquired mineral properties elsewhere in Minnesota and in the Upper Peninsula. By 1901 the Company was a division of United States Steel Corporation.
