dc.description.abstractThe image shows mineralized vein outcrops on the mountainside. Claims were staked in the Alta basin by the mid 1870s and silver ore was being shipped by 1878. Although most of the area mines operated intermittently, a few of the larger mines were steady producers. By the late 1940s the district was inactive.
