Abstract
The Judson Mine (Judson-Balkan Mine) is an underground iron mine in the Menominee Range, Iron County, Minnesota. The Judson Mine opened in 1913 and the Balkan Mine opened in 1915 as separate operations, later combined. The Mine was operated by Inland Steel Company until 1942, then by Pickands, Mather and Company. Pickands, Mather and Company was one of the large mining companies that consolidated smaller properties in the iron ranges in the early 1900s. The Company became one of the largest iron ore companies in the US.
