Abstract
Postcard showing a log cribbed street near the A.Y. Mine and Minnie Mine in Leadville, which were located at the bottom of California Gulch near the base of Iron Hill. The A.Y. Mine was discovered in 1869 by A.Y. Corman and associates, who also located the nearby Minnie Mine in 1877. The mines failed to produce for them, and in 1880 the A.Y. Mine was sold to a group of investors including Albert F. Harsh, Charles Graham, Thomas Weir and George F. Work. However when Weir and Work ran short of funds, they sold their half to a Jewish merchant, Meyer Guggenheim, for five thousand dollars. Guggenheim and Graham also purchased the Minnie Mine in 1880. A few months later they struck rich silver deposits in both mines. By the summer of 1882, the mines were yielding two thousand dollars in ore per day, and they continued to produce large quantities of silver ore for a decade.
