Abstract
The InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) peer-to-peer hypermedia distribution protocol synthesizes various technological developments from the last few decades. In particular, research into incentives in peer-to-peer systems such as BitTorrent can be used to bootstrap block exchange strategies in IPFS. In this work, we take the first step in the implementation and analysis of strategies in Bitswap, IPFS’s block exchange subsystem. We investigate a select set of strategies from both an analytical perspective and with a novel strategy implementation and testbed. Our work shows the promise of a simple, single-hop strategy implementation and sets the stage for further work in this direction.
