Abstract
A steam shovel on rails works at stockpiles at the Lake Superior Mine. Four miners with shovels stand in front of the steam shovel, and other miners are visible on the tops of the stockpiles behind the steam shovel. Although the notes indicate that this is the Lake Superior Mine in Ontonagon County, the steam shovel bears the words, "Iron King" and "Lake Superior Iron Co." Ontonagon County was more of a copper producing area; there is also a Lake Superior iron mine located in the iron range of Marquette County, Michigan and this image may be from the latter mine.
