Abstract
The mineral specimen comes from the Climax Mine, located in Lake County, Colorado. The Climax Mine worked one of the largest molybdenum deposits in the world and extracted some 470 million tons of ore. Molybdenum ore was identified at the Climax site in 1895 and the Mine was opened in 1917 by the Climax Molybdenum Company. Market conditions caused the Mine to begin laying off its work force in 1982 and the Mine was operated only intermittently up to 1992. The Climax Mine has produced a number of fine mineral specimens.
