Abstract
London Mines & Milling Company office and mill with nearby mine dumps, Alma, Park County. Caption reads: "No. 3702. London Mines & Milling Co. Alma, Colorado. Office and (above) mill of the London Mines and Milling., at 11,500 ft., just under the mighty summits of the Mosquito range, in Central Colorado, above Alma, where General Superintendent H. L. Tedrow has shattered all precedent in the hard rock deep-metal-mning field by employing seven women to do the lighter work around the mill, release men for heavier jobs. Mr. Tedrow says the experiment is working out well, the women are adaptable and willing, and promise to play a real part in meeting the labor shortage caused by male miners going to war or streaming down out of the mountains to higher paid jobs in building army camps and war industries; may aid in solving the problem of producing strategic metals under war conditions."
