Abstract
The image shows four men with scaling bars scaling a heading. Scaling refers to plucking down loose rock adhering to the roof or walls of a tunnel or rock face. Long scaling bars were often used because of the danger of rock falls. This image may be depict work done in constructing tunnels for New York City's water supply from the Catskills.
