Abstract
Photograph taken in Monument Valley showing Dennis Ward Viles (on the right) with another man, who is holding a chunk of carnotite ore. Viles was the Vice President of the Vanadium Corporation of America (V.C.A.), which owned the Monument #1 and Monument #2 Mines in Monument Valley, Arizona. The carnotite ore from these mines was trucked to the V.C.A. Durango Uranium-Vanadium Plant where uranium concentrate (yellow cake) and vanadium concentrate (red cake) were extracted from the ore.
