Abstract
Stereopair slide of the Vanadium Corporation of America's Durango Uranium-Vanadium Processing Plant showing a worker standing next to the fusion furnace. At the plant, uranium concentrate (yellow cake) was extracted from the carnotite and roscoelite ores by a salt roasting, leaching, and precipitation process. It was then filtered and washed before being mixed with soda ash, sodium sulfate, sawdust, and fuel oil. This mixture was put in the fusion furnace and heated. The vanadium concentrate (red cake) extracted from the ores was also fused in the furnace.
