Abstract
A close view of a tugger hoist on a dragline is shown at the Noonan Mine. The Noonan Mine (Baukol-Noonan Mine) is a strip coal mine near Noonan in Divide County, North Dakota. The Mine was originally operated by Baukol-Noonan Lignite, Inc. The company was formed to work the large coal deposits discovered near Noonan. The Mine was opened in 1930 and operated until 1963, when the company's mining operations moved from Noonan to another town in the region. The Mine covered over 1400 acres in its operations. Reclamation of the site was started in 1994 and became part of the Harris M. Baukol Wildlife Management Area, owned by the state.
